6 Ways To Make Your Wedding Day Unforgettable

It’s arguable that your wedding day will be unforgettable no matter what happens. After months of planning to say “I do” to the love of your life surrounded by friends and family, you’ll find that the big day is over in a flash. If you want to be able to savour every moment and create an event that you and your guests will never forget, try some of these tips.

1. Create sensory triggers

This one is for you, more than your guests, but it’s a truly magical way to lock in the memories from your special day and have them come flooding back in the years to come. You know how you attach songs to certain people or memories? And specific smells can suddenly take you way back to a moment in your life? The power of smell can be used to your advantage to create a kind of gateway back to your big day. Wear a new perfume or scent that is not your usual. Whenever you wear that scent in the future, on anniversaries or special occasions, you’ll be transported back to your wedding day.

2. Authentic photos

We definitely recommend having a professional photographer to capture the magic of your day, but another fun idea is to let your guests do some of the work too. It’s quite popular to create a unique Instagram hashtag for your wedding where people can share their digital snaps, but why not provide each table with a disposable camera and ask them to use it up and hand it back at the end. This gives you eyes everywhere and will capture intimate moments no one could plan for. You might want to label the cameras corresponding to the tables in case you have to track one down if someone forgets to hand it back!

3. Personalised entertainment

Having entertainment at your reception is a great way to make sure your guests are enjoying themselves, as you won’t be able to attend to everyone. Now you could do something fancy like running hot air balloon rides all day, but honestly, you don’t have to spend loads of money to get people having fun and making memories. Depending on your venue, you could set up some games that get people interacting with each other and having a great time, like a welly throwing contest or a photo booth with props. Remember, games that are good for kids can be just as fun for adults! These activities ensure your guests are having fun while you’re making the most of your day.

4. Wedding favours that will be used

If you’re considering leaving favours on the tables, why not go for something that can be used again, and that will remind your guests of your wedding every time they use them. A very functional gift could be personalised coasters that can be placed on top of drinks while dancing so it doesn’t get taken away. These are sure to be taken home and used again! Hangover survival packs are also a great idea, giving guests some painkillers, plasters for rubbed feet or drunken injuries, some earplugs so they can get some sleep, you get the idea!

5. Make it fancy dress

Your wedding, your rules. Who says you can’t make it silly and set a theme? Your theme could be a simple token like asking guests to wear one item of a certain colour, pattern, or style, or it could be as wild as fully-fledged dress code from a certain book, world, or era! Having a theme can be really fun and help everything to tie in, for example, you might have themed decoration or activities, and it certainly gives the guests something to talk about.

6. Pick an interesting guest book idea

One of our favourite ideas for guestbooks includes leaving out a polaroid camera for guests to snap shots of themselves, stick in the book and sign with a message. This creates even more little moments that you’ll never forget. We also love the idea of turning your guestbook into a piece of art that you’ll be able to display in your home, such as a tree of thumbprints with everyone’s name signed on their print, or a rustic slice of wood for everyone to sign.

Another special idea is getting your guests to leave you a message in a bottle. In one wedding we saw this idea with a selection of bottles corresponding to a different anniversary year. Guests can choose which bottle to leave a message in, and you’ll open it on that anniversary, bringing up wonderful memories for years to come.

There are hundreds of ways you can personalise your wedding and make unique memories for all. We recommend planning it well so that when the day comes, you can sit back and truly enjoy it!
